At Suntory, we believe in doing more than just offering products; we recognize it is our responsibility to make a positive impact on those around us, and to give back to nature and society.
Our founder, Shinjiro Torii, believed that success is only real when it is shared. We owe ours to nature, to our customers, our employees, and our communities. Giving back is our way of saying thank you.
This belief began with Shinjiro Torii, our founder. Shinjiro actively worked on community projects to improve the lives of the people around him, and that philosophy endured. In 1961, Keizo Saji, the second president of Suntory, opened the Suntory Museum of Art with a vision to bring emotional enrichment to people’s daily lives. To this day, the museum showcases our desire to link the ancient to the modern, the East to the West, across boundaries of time, place, and culture.
Keizo Saji once said that “contributions to society should be driven by an individual’s genuine will.” We strive every day at Suntory to display this will, and inspired the construction of Suntory Hall—Tokyo’s first classical music hall dedicated to live concerts.
The hall opened in 1986 and was quickly recognized as one of the best classical music concert halls in the world, thanks to our collaboration with renowned music and architecture experts, including Herbert von Karajan, a famous conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. These cultural landmarks are our way of saying “thank you” to the people around us, and it is an honor to have so many people from all over the world visit them.
