Efforts at Manufacturing Sites

In order to deliver high quality, safe and reliable products to consumers, we have established a system to promote quality assurance activities under the Suntory Quality Policy, and are making thorough efforts at our production plants.

Quality and food safety certification

Suntory Beverage & Food Limited produces its products throughout Japan, mainly at plants in nine group companies that have acquired the the international standard ISO 9001 (quality) and FSSC 22000 (food safety) certification. We conduct various efforts to maintain and improve the level of certification, including internal audits within and between plants, management system maturity assessments, and horizontal roll-out of findings.

Production site security and food defense

Security

We limit entrances and exits to plants, and always check visitors at the service gate. Buildings and internal doors are equipped with an automatic card or PIN lock system, and cameras and sensors are installed on the plant grounds.

Food defense*

The Suntory Group established food defense guidelines as an antiterrorism measure in 2009, and has implemented these guidelines at our own plants. We have also expanded our activities to distribution sites such as product storage warehouses and contract producers of health foods, and are further strengthening our system for ensuring food safety by acquiring the FSSC22000 food safety management system.

Setting quality rules common to plants

Suntory Beverage & Food Limited has established quality guidelines common to all plants as guidelines for quality assurance activities, and is promoting their establishment and permeation throughout each plant. In addition, we extend our experience and know-how to all factories, including those of our contractors, to prevent the recurrence of problems.

Product Assurance Camera Guidelines

Aiming to improve our accountability, we are moving forward with the installation of cameras that record the external appearance of our PET bottled products as they move along the production line.

Insect-proofing Guidelines

To prevent insects from entering our factories from the outside, and to prevent the breeding of insects inside our factories, we have split our factories into sections according to specific aims, and are implementing countermeasures according to the level of each section. We regularly inspect our insect traps, and quickly implement the necessary measures if there are any changes.

Best-before Date Printing Defect Prevention Guidelines

To confirm that best-before dates are accurately printed onto our products, we are ensuring confirmation throughout our production processes, such as by setting up best-before date printing inspection devices along our production lines.
