Kengo Kuma|Architect
Profile:
Born in 1954, Kuma completed the Master’s Program in the Department of Architecture, Graduate School of Engineering, University of Tokyo and is currently a professor at that university. Established Kengo Kuma & Associates in 1990. Received the Architectural Institute of Japan Award for Noh Stage in the Forest in 1997, the Mainichi Art Award for Nezu Museum in 2010, and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s Art Encouragement Prize for Yusuhara Wooden Bridge Museum in 2011.
Recent projects include the Suntory Museum of Art, the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center, the Nagaoka City Hall Aore, the Kabukiza, the Toshima Ward Offices, the Besançon Art Center and Cité de la Musique, and the FRAC Marseille, the Under One Roof project for the EPFL ArtLab. Projects currently underway in sixteen countries include the New National Stadium (Tokyo), the Victoria & Albert at Dundee (Scotland), the Saint-Denis Pleyel Emblematic Train Station (France), the Albert Kahn – Muséee et Jardins (France), and the Padova Convention Center (Italy). Kuma’s many publications include Chisa na kenchiku (Little structures; Iwanami Shinsho), Shizen na kenchiku (Natural architecture; Iwanami Shinsho), Kenchikuka, hashiru (Architect, run; Shinchosha), Boku no basho (My place; Daiwa Shobo), and Naze boku ga Shin Kokuritsu Kyogijo wo tsukuru no ka (Why am I building the New National Stadium; Nikkei BP).Tickets will be available at the Suntory Museum of Art or through Lawson Ticket (L code: 34836) starting March 29.
