With the wish to provide aid to disaster-affected areas throughout Japan, applications were accepted annually from groups and individuals around Japan in order to support their musical activities with grants. In the ten iterations over the 11 years this project ran, the Music Aid Award was granted to 156 projects (a total of around 90 million yen awarded in grants).

Members of the Wiener Philharmoniker have continued to visit disaster-affected areas to hold concerts and musical activities in order to support local children’s mental health and contribute to the development of the next generation. Since 2012, they have visited Miyagi, Fukushima, Iwate, and Kumamoto. Local concerts were put on hold due to the spread of Covid-19 in 2020, but in 2023, musicians were able to visit and perform at an elementary school in Iwaki, Fukushima.
