Suntory Group’s business is supported by the blessings of water and nature. We consider the global environment, the source of water and nature, an important foundation of our business. Recognizing that wild birds are an "indicator of the environment", we have been regenerating the rich natural environment and protecting wild birds since 1973. As part of our activities, the Suntory Fund for Bird Conservation was founded in 1989 with the objective to provide broad support to bird conservation initiatives in Japan and abroad.

Grey-faced Buzzards breed in Japan and spend winter in Southeast Asia. They are designated as a “vulnerable” species in the Red List by Japan’s Ministry of Environment. Against the large-scale poaching of these birds in the Philippines, activists had been conducting cross-border conservation activities over several years and finally succeeded in eradicating the illegal act. The miraculous result demonstrated that conservation activities are necessary among breeding areas, flyways and wintering areas for the migratory birds.
