“Protecting the future of water and life”
Suntory's “Natural Water Sanctuary” Activities
Japan is blessed with numerous places that nurture pristine groundwater.
In order to contribute to society by protecting the sustainability of water, the Suntory group—which uses water as a precious resource—pledges to "nurture forests that produce more groundwater than that we withdraw at our plants" in Japan.
Plan underway to double Natural Water Sanctuaries
Suntory signed long term agreements running over decades with forest owners and has been developing forests that nurture groundwater since 2003. As these development activities extend throughout Japan, covering over a total area of some 8,000 hectares (19,768 acres), Suntory set targets to expand it to 12,000 hectares (29,652 acres) by 2020. This is the equivalent of double the area to nurture the volume of groundwater that will be supplied to Suntory plants in Japan in 2020.
Sustainable conservation activities are needed to maintain the health of the Natural Water Sanctuaries.
Activities for the Natural Water Sanctuaries throughout the country are underway with an eye toward 50 years and 100 years in the future, based on surveys and research with a scientific foundation.
