This large, heavily potted bowl has a flanged rim. The Chinese-style dragon and clouds motif on the interior of the bowl is painted in underglaze blue and overglaze red, yellow, and gold. Around it are six roundels in which coiled dragon and sacred jewel motifs in red and gold on a bright green ground alternate. The space around them is filled with chrysanthemum lozenge motifs. The outside is surrounded by arabesques on the red ground; within panels on the four sides, phoenix and floral motifs alternate. Inside the foot is the inscription Daimin banreki nen sei (""made in the Wanli era, Ming dynasty"") inside two concentric circles; there are also five kiln spur marks. Ko-Imari style wares such as this bowl were modeled on late Ming kinrande (overglaze enamel with gold) or wucai wares, and produced for the domestic market.
