On Sunday, October 23, 1921 (Taisho 10), a Satsuma Glass Exhibition was held at the Shimazu residence in Sodegasaki, Tokyo, displaying 128 pieces judged to the Satsuma kiriko. This bottle was one of those displayed, as is confirmed by its inclusion in sketches of sixteen pieces made during the exhibition. The sketch also states that it was owned by Yamada Naoya, a mining engineer who was born in Satsuma near the end of the Tokugawa shogunate. Satsuma kiriko with green overlays are extremely rare; today only two examples, including this one, are known.
