　Gallé’s use of black glass was influenced, it has been pointed out, by glass from Qing China (1616-1912). The hawkmoth, its wings spread, its head facing down, on the cup of this work may have been created with reference to the design of a Qing-period snuff bottle in Gallé’s own collection. （『没後120年　エミール・ガレ：憧憬のパリ』サントリー美術館、2024年）
